Community Development Director

 

Southwest Iowa Planning Council (SWIPCO), a regional council of governments located in Atlantic, Iowa seeks a Community Development Director. This is a supervisory position that reports directly to the executive director. The incumbent is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of a very diverse set of services to our member communities. These services include, but are not limited to: grant writing, grant administration, housing development and rehabilitation, planning, small business loans, municipal code development and enforcement, and administering a regional transportation planning affiliation. The successful candidate will supervise a staff of 5 with a diverse set of responsibilities. A demonstrated history of positive staff supervision is required along with a strong desire to live and work in a rural setting. This is a middle management position and a minimum of 4 to 8 years of experience is required. Applicants from a variety of disciplines will be considered, and those with experience managing state and or federal grant funds are especially encouraged to apply. A master’s degree in a field related to public administration, business, or regional planning or a bachelor’s degree with commensurate is preferred. Residency within the SWIPCO region is required within 4 months of hire.

Transit Dispatcher

 

Southwest Iowa Planning Council is seeking to fill the position of Transit Dispatcher.  This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package which includes IPERS.

Job Duties:

  • Answer transportation department phones
  • Communicate client transportation needs to drivers
  • Data entry/verification of driver log sheets
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the transit system

Minimum job requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Must have good communication skills with drivers, customer and office personnel
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Part Time Drivers

 

Southwest Iowa Transit Agency needs part-time drivers to transport individuals in Shelby and Pottawattamie County and the city of Council Bluffs.  Starting pay is $12/hour, plus incentives. Must have, or be willing to obtain, Commercial Drivers License Class C or above with a passenger endorsement. May use SWITA buses for testing.  Pre-employment drug screen.
