SWIPCO is seeking to hire a Community Development Specialist II
Do you like to be out in the community helping local leaders and stakeholders solve complex problems? Do you want a career that is diverse and challenging? Do you have a background in local government, planning, or economic development? Are you organized and get excited about seeing a project you helped start become a reality? If these things interest you, consider becoming a community development specialist at SWIPCO. Our community development staff are both planners and doers—meaning that where many traditional planning jobs leave the implementation to someone else, our staff not only identify issues and develop solutions, but are there to help get it funded and built. Diverse backgrounds can meet this but the ideal candidate will have experience and/or a degree and community and regional planning. SWIPCO is looking to bring on someone who has already had their entry level experience and is looking to move up in a growing organization. Starting salary is between $55k and $65k, depending on qualifications.
Complete applications require a resume, cover letter, three professional references, and an equal opportunity employment questionnaire. As a public employer, SWIPCO offers an excellent benefits package including 99% of single health premiums paid (85% of family plans), IPERS retirement, paid sick and vacation leave, ten paid holidays, as well as other benefits. The work location is Atlantic, Iowa, and following an initial training period a hybrid work environment is anticipated. Because of the nature of community meetings this position is not fully remote. Residency within a reasonable distance of Atlantic is required. Position is open until filled but review of applications will begin January 12, 2023. Applications should be emailed to SWIPCO human resources, daurine.petersen@swipco.org.
